Welcome to the Severn Lake website. We are the first and only information point for news and development in and around the Lake.
On St David's Day, 1st March 2016 we celebrate our 10 years promoting our vision of the Severn Estuary Energy causeway and ribbon development for the South West, Gloucestershire and Wales.
Our Vision in 2006
To build a concrete Causeway to create a 145,000 hectare lake to contain:
The Causeway will only land on both shores for landscaped services access. It has been made clear in consultation that the South West does not want a road from Wales to land at Brean Down and act as a "rat run" to the M5. Should the Vale of Glamorgan Council and/or Sedgemoor Disctrict Council wish to utilise the Causeway, they should create their own planning application at arms-length. All consultation work on the Causeway will be from the sea.
- 216 hydroelectric turbines, two directional one-way bulb turbines capturing the tide on ebb and flow.
- Two wave farms on the Western side of the Causeway.
- Autonomous power and water services
- Continous free-flow shipping channel.
- Four marinas and a lifeboat station
- 12 islands on the north east shipping land of the Lake.
